Wolff Out
Josh Wolff has consistently caused Austin FC to underperform. We call upon the Front Office to replace him immediately. Austin deserves better.
Josh Wolff Must Go
He is not up to the task of coaching an MLS team.
Poor Coaching Results
Austin FC have a record of 45W-29D-58L in MLS regular season play. That puts Wolff at 1.24 PPG, the 3rd worst in MLS history.
He is the only head coach with this bad a record who has never been fired.
Poor Player Relationships
Over the past 4 seasons, Wolff has managed to feud with two key players, alienate a key DP in Sebastian Driussi, and generally demoralize the squad.
The body language of the players noticeably show frustration and anger as the seasons grind on.
Lack of Self-Awareness
One need only listen to Wolff’s press conferences to see that he consistently blames the players for poor results, never taking any responsibility.
No matter the coach they cannot improve if they do not identify their failings and strive to improve them.
Poor Fan Relationships
Wolff rarely, if ever, compliments (or even acknowledges) the fanbase. He does not communicate at all with the outside world except at press conferences.
Most egregiously he does not encourage the players to applaud the fans at the end of games. He seems to view the fans as an unfortunate byproduct of getting paid to be involved with professional soccer.
Poor Game Management
Wolff attempts to micromanage players in a game which is not constructed for this. He is constantly on the sidelines yelling at players as if to try to direct them as he would pixels in a video game.
His substitutions are often odd, but ALWAYS too late in the game to help the team or change its fortunes.
Most egregiously, at ANY time Austin leads in a game, he almost immediately switches to parking the bus. This rarely works, if ever.
Rigid Tactics
A coach’s role is to work with the Front Office to get in the players who fit the coach’s system.
Critically, especially with MLS’ roster restrictions, the coach must also adjust the system to fit the players they have.
Wolff cannot seem to do this. Either he sticks with a tactical setup game after game which is clearly not working, or he runs out bizarre formations and team selections that almost always fail.
For these reasons, and honestly, many, many more, Josh Wolff must be replaced immediately.
